When we send out LiPo batteries, we do our best to check that the cells are balanced and that the pack has balanced and appropriate internal resistance. All customers are responsible for fully checking their LiPo batteries before using them in any model.

If you are not happy with the condition or readings of your battery, please contact us immediately to arrange an exchange of your LiPo pack. Upon receiving your LiPo pack and checking it, you have 3 days to report any issues with its condition.

  • These lithium polymer battery packs are guaranteed, under warranty, against defects in materials and workmanship.
  • This warranty does not cover physical damage to the battery pack resulting from a crash, hard landing, improper mounting or any deformation caused by the user.
  • This warranty does not cover internal damage to the battery pack caused by overcharging, deep discharging or excessive discharge current.
  • We do not accept responsibility for injury, crashes, damage or loss of kits or accessories.
  • Any undervoltage LiPo must be reported upon the first charge.
  • Any imbalanced cells must be reported upon the first charge.
  • Any unusually high internal resistance must be reported upon the first charge.
  • Once the pack has been used with any of the above issues, the warranty may be void.
  • Packs are not covered against modifications such as changing the original connectors. By request, we can carry out connector changes for you.

Warranty testing:

All LiPo batteries must be returned to Radio Controlled Shop Ireland for testing before a warranty claim can be processed. If the LiPo pack is determined to be faulty, we will ship a replacement to you free of charge. In some cases, we may need to return the battery to the supplier before a warranty claim can be processed.

Radio Controlled Shop Ireland LiPo Battery Safety Warnings

By purchasing any LiPo battery, the buyer accepts responsibility for following the battery manufacturer's instructions and all applicable safety guidelines. Lithium Polymer batteries can be hazardous if they are mishandled, stored, charged or discharged incorrectly. Failure to follow the manufacturer's instructions may result in fire, personal injury or damage to property.

Store LiPo batteries in accordance with the manufacturer's recommended storage temperature and state of charge. Avoid direct sunlight and excessive heat. Never store or charge a battery pack inside a vehicle in extreme temperatures. Protect batteries from punctures, crushing and other physical damage, as damage to lithium cells may result in fire.

If you notice a battery beginning to balloon or swell, discontinue charging or discharging immediately. Disconnect the battery if it is safe to do so and move it away from combustible materials without putting yourself at risk. Do not continue using or charging a swollen battery.

A swollen, damaged or otherwise compromised lithium battery should be isolated safely and handled in accordance with appropriate battery-disposal and recycling procedures. Do not puncture, crush, dismantle or deliberately short-circuit a lithium battery in an attempt to discharge it.

Do not attempt to solder connectors to Lithium Polymer batteries unless you have sufficient experience and understand the risks involved. Short circuits can result in very high currents, burns, fire and damage to the battery.

If you need to change a battery connector, take care to prevent the positive and negative wires from touching each other. Never cut both battery wires simultaneously with a conductive tool, as this can create a short circuit.

If a battery is accidentally short-circuited, disconnect it immediately if it is safe to do so and move it to a safe location away from combustible materials. Monitor the battery for signs of swelling, heating, smoke or other abnormal behaviour. Do not continue using a battery that has been damaged by a short circuit.

LiPo Charging

Always use a charger specifically designed for Lithium Polymer batteries and select the correct battery type, cell count and charging settings before starting the charge.

Multi-cell LiPo batteries should normally be charged using the appropriate balance-charging function and balance connector. Always follow the battery manufacturer's specified charging current and voltage limits.

Never leave a LiPo battery unattended while charging. Charge batteries on a suitable non-flammable surface and keep them away from combustible materials.

Always check the battery condition and cell voltages before charging. Do not attempt to charge a battery that is damaged, swollen, leaking or otherwise behaving abnormally.

LiPo Discharge

Do not discharge a LiPo battery below the minimum voltage specified by the battery manufacturer. Deep discharge can permanently damage lithium cells and can make a battery unsafe or unsuitable for further use.

As a general example, a 3.2V per-cell voltage would correspond to the following pack voltages:

  • 2-cell pack: 6.4V
  • 3-cell pack: 9.6V
  • 4-cell pack: 12.8V
  • 5-cell pack: 16.0V
  • 6-cell pack: 19.2V

The manufacturer's recommended minimum voltage should always take priority over the examples above. The voltage of a LiPo battery can also behave differently under load, so users should follow the battery manufacturer's specifications and the requirements of their model and ESC.

Repeated deep discharge can dramatically reduce battery performance and may permanently damage the battery pack.

Battery Capacity and Condition

A significant reduction in usable capacity can be an indication that a battery has reached the end of its service life. Batteries that show significant loss of capacity, abnormal cell imbalance, excessive internal resistance, swelling or other damage should be removed from service and assessed before further use.

Do not continue using a battery simply because it still appears to work if it is showing signs of physical damage or significant deterioration.

LiPo Battery Disposal

Do not place LiPo batteries in normal household waste or recycling bins. Lithium batteries can cause fires if they are damaged or incorrectly disposed of.

Damaged, swollen or end-of-life LiPo batteries should be handled carefully and taken to an appropriate battery recycling or hazardous-waste facility that accepts lithium batteries. Follow the disposal instructions provided by your local recycling authority or waste facility.

Do not puncture, crush, dismantle or immerse a lithium battery in saltwater. These methods can create additional safety hazards.

Warranty Exchange Requirements

In order to be eligible for a warranty exchange, the user must follow the applicable initial setup, charging and inspection instructions above. Where required by the applicable warranty terms, the battery pack must also be registered with Radio Controlled Shop Ireland.

All warranty claims are subject to inspection and testing of the battery. A battery may need to be returned to the manufacturer or supplier for further assessment before a final warranty decision can be made.

Important Information

The information above provides general guidance on the safe use and care of LiPo batteries. It is ultimately the customer's responsibility to read and understand the instructions supplied with the battery, charger, model and other equipment before use.

If you are unsure how to charge, store, discharge or otherwise handle a LiPo battery, please contact us before using it.
